This article explains the sections of your pay statement and the Your Last Check page in EmployeeXperience® (eX): what you earned, the taxes and deductions taken out, and where your pay went. It also explains the Where Your Money Went chart on the Home page.
Gross Pay and Net Pay
- Gross is your total pay before anything is taken out.
- Net is what's left after taxes and deductions: your take-home pay.
- YTD (year to date) amounts add up everything since January 1 of the current year.
Earnings
Each type of pay you earned this period is its own line, for example regular hours, overtime or holiday pay, with the hours (or units), rate and amount.
Taxes
Employee Taxes are taken out of your pay. Common ones are:
- Federal income tax, based on your W-4
- Social Security and Medicare (together called FICA)
- State and local income tax, depending on where you live and work
- in some states, taxes for state unemployment, disability or family leave insurance
Employer Taxes are paid by your employer on top of your pay. They're shown for your information and aren't taken out of your pay.
To change your withholding, see Tax Profile and Changing Your Withholding.
Deductions
Employee Deductions are taken out of your pay, for example your share of health insurance, retirement contributions or a health savings account. Some are taken out before tax and lower your taxable pay.
Employer Deductions are amounts your employer pays toward your benefits, such as their share of insurance or a retirement match. They aren't taken out of your pay.
See Scheduled Deductions for each deduction's details.
Accruals
Time off you've earned, such as vacation or sick time. For your balances, see Time Off Summary.
Direct Deposits
Where your net pay was deposited, with part of each account number hidden. See Direct Deposits.
Where Your Money Went (Home Page)
The Where Your Money Went card on the Home page splits your last check into Take-home, Taxes and Deductions, as a percentage of your gross pay. Click Show amounts to see the dollar amounts.
